Day 238 (February 26th, 2011)
Title: Imperial Fail
Sometimes when I take a shot and I try and think of a short little "story" to go with it, I just get stumped on what to write - either because I just can't think of anything, or (as in this case), there are just too many things I could write about this. I think I'll just leave it to the viewers to imagine the story that goes with this photo, only because I think others might have a more active imagination than I and could really think up some funny stuff.
Technical bits: Due to the urgency in trying to capture this photo, it came out much blurrier than I was wanting, but because of its humor level, I decided to use it anyway. It was shot using my 50mm prime at: f/2.0, 1/80th (ISO 400), with no flash.
Enjoy!

Photo 365 - Day 208 (Cheeky Sex)
Day 208 (January 27th, 2011)
Title: Cheeky Sex
This is one of those photos that a LOT of possible stories/taglines could be said, so I'm just not going to say anything about this one.
But if I was going to say something, I would have been really bad involving a math joke about how "Sex" is a subset of "Cheeky" within the "Gettin' Drunk" population. But, I wouldn't do that. Because it would be bad and people would probably throw things at me. But I do encourage you to think up even worse (or better, depending) stories for this shot!
Ps: And for some interesting context, all of these "Cheeky Sex n' Booze" was at the SFMoMA exhibit (How Wine Became Modern: Design + Wine 1976 to Now)
Enjoy

Photo 365 - Day 85 (Duck Reflection)
Day 85 (September 27th, 2010)
Title: Duck Reflection
When I saw this duck, looking at his reflection (course, I'm not really sure he is doing that), I was reminded by of the story, The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Anderson. Basically, the story goes: Duck, born looking like it fell out of the storks basket a few hundred feet up, gets picked on by other ducks. He decides he's had enough, he learns Duck-Fu, and the next time the kids try and mess with him he was going to go all "medieval" on them. But, through his training he learns that he does not need to beat them up because they are all superficial, materialistic, self-centered egotist ducks. UD (as his friends call him now), learns to find inner-peace, gets a masters degree in both electrical engineering and architecture so he can build climate controlled DuckMansions(TM), so he and his friends don't have to fly South for the winter. Now, he and his other "ugly" friends laugh and mock those other "pretty" ducks that have to fly south, while they drink Barcardi and play shuffleboard.
And he lived happily ever after.
Hans was a bit of a messed up writer.

Photo 365 - Day 52 (Bug)
Day 52 (August 25th, 2010)
Title: Bug
This picture requires a bit of a back-story. I am lucky enough to live in the San Francisco Bay Area where we don't really believe in weather. Our "winter" weather averages around 50-60 degrees, sometimes we allow a little light rain and, if we are really brave, we might actually put a jacket on. For our "summer", it's 70-80 degrees, foggy till 11am (so not to wake us up too early with all that sunlight) and slightly breezy. On "hot" days it will get to 88 or 89 and basically work stops and everyone in the entire state goes to the beach. This is why our housing is $1.2 million per square foot.
Now, this last week we have had some, as I like to call it, "Texas Ass Weather". Temperatures over 100, no wind, humid, and basically sucktastic. Now, for a San Franciscan, 100 degrees is basically like WALKING ON THE SUN! Its hot. H. O. T. Not toasty, or warm, or scorching, but H!O!T!
So, on this insanely hot day I had decided to have some sort of temporary brain embolism and go walking to find a picture. I got my camera ready, had my hat (thinking that would help and not burst into flames instantly), and a small bottle of water. I walked out of air-conditioned building right onto the corona of the sun. Did I mention it was hot? As I bolted back in (as my shoes were melting) I decided: "Perhaps I'll take a picture inside today!"
I was looking around the house thinking of what to shoot and I saw some ladybugs on the balcony. One was crawling up the glass door and I decided "Hey, that's all kinds of nature! Perfect!" So, opened the door to walk out and take a few close-ups of the little bug and that's when I remembered that the balcony was chock full of "outsideness". Really hot outsideness. So, that plan was scrapped and I decided the BEST picture would be from below the bug as it walked up the glass door... from the inside.
Long story for a silly shot. Enjoy!

Photo 365 - Day 10 (Old Domino #2)
Day 10 (July 13th, 2010)
Title: Old Bone Domino's, Picture #2
I'm posting another domino picture because yesterday when I posted the first picture, I asked Theresa: "Do you know how to play dominoes?" She replied: "Stack them up and knock them all down?" This made me a bit sad, for that is not "playing" dominoes, that's "playing WITH dominoes". To play dominoes, it a fun game of strategy, mathematics, and a smidgen of luck.
(Random Story Alert)
When I was a kid and I mean, KID (like 6-7), my dad used to play dominoes with my uncle and their friends in back of the house, in what was known as "dad's lair". We kids weren't really allowed back there (lots of things we could have killed ourselves playing with), but there would be times when they were playing that my dad would let me back there just to watch... as long as I was quite and didn't touch anything. I didn't. I just watched them play for hours talking about sports, woodworking and whatnot. Finally, one day my dad got up to go get more beer (ginger beer for me), he asked me to play his hand. I was stunned and thrilled. I took his seat with a sort of reverence. Sort of like the captain of a ship giving the wheel to a lowly deck hand. I gulped, shakily look at each 'bone' and waited my turn. When it got to me, I carefully placed my bone and called out "fifteen". The guys laughed and thought it was "cute" that I knew how to score. About 5 min later, my dad returned, the hand was over and I had scored 50 points (which for a single round is pretty good). After that, they would let me play (again, as long as I didn't talk and didn't touch anything... except the dominoes and to pass the bottle opener). Dominoes was the first real "game" that I fell in love with, and although I've played many hundreds in the years since, it is also still my favorite.
(End Random Story Alert)
Well, Theresa reminded me that many people play with dominoes rather than realize that are for an actual game. So, I thought: "what the heck!" and I took a picture for those poor souls who are missing out on the TRUE fun of those little tiles. Enjoy!
