Photo 365 - Day 211 (Intersection)

Day 211 (January 30th, 2011)
Title: Intersection

There are some pictures, that I really have no idea why I took them.  Perhaps I thought they would look interesting or have some sort of compositional element that would be fun to look at, but most of the time I think its just because I'm nuts.  I was taking some shots from the top of our building (18 stories high) and I looked down and saw the tennis court and though: "Hey, white lines!  Those are cool!" and shot away. Afterward, I downloaded the photos, looked at them and thought: "Well, that was just stupid.  Its just white lines."

After basically ignoring them for a while, I decided to come back to them and see if I could "play around" with just white lines and try and make them a bit more fun to look at.  Here is the end result!

Enjoy

Photo 365 - Day 180 (Passion)

Day 180 (December 30th, 2010)
Title: Passion

LOOKING FOR LOVE
A strange passion is moving in my head.
My heart has become a bird
which searches in the sky.
Every part of me goes in different directions.
Is it really so
that the one I love is everywhere?
A poem by Rumi (13th-century Persian Muslim poet)

Photo 365 - Day 136 (Geek #5)

Day 136 (November 15th, 2010)
Title: Geek #5

Well, we are nearly to the end of the Name That Thing 2 adventure, and I have to say its been a lot of fun!  Yesterday's photo certainly confused a few folks, but at the same time I think a lot more people got it right than I was expecting!  I blame those darn Intel commercials!  Yesterday's photo was of: CPU (Microprocessor) Chip! (AMD CPU in this case).  The following answers were also deemed correct: "Computer's Brain!" and "Master Control Program Chip" (bonus Tron reference points were awarded!).

Congrats on all the correct guesses!

Today's picture is just mean.  Its a Geek Level 5 photo, but the good news is its not the last of the photos - I have one more tomorrow that's really neat and not too hard to get!  But today's is tricky.  Its also a bit abstract, so that makes it a bit more difficult.  But, I like the photo, so it gets a chance to trick you all!  And if there was ever a shot that had a "Alien Probe"-esq look to it...

Enjoy!

Photo 365 - Day 134 (Geek #3)

Day 134 (November 13th, 2010)
Title: Geek #3

We have reached the half-way point for Name That Thing 2!  We've had a lot of guesses this time around, and many of them have been correct!  Heck, some people even did research to get the right answer - Bravo!  So, without further ado, here is the answer for yesterday's photo:  It was... an Alien Probe!  No, just kidding, it was a Monitor Plug! (Or, as someone diligently found out: "15-pin d-sub/ VGA connector)

Now we move to Geek Level 3 for the next photo.  You have to be a bit more techno-savvy to get this one I think.  I hope you like it!

(ps: again, not an Alien Probe)

Photo 365 - Day 130 (Glass Web)

Day 130 (November 9th, 2010)
Title: Glass Web

This is my own "comment" of yesterday's post (Shattered).  While I was generally upset about seeing the vandalism that was done to the Mint building, when I saw the photos I realized they looked really interesting and cool.  I know I can totally hear certain folks (you know who you are!) saying: "See!  Sometimes beauty can come from random destruction and violence!".  Yeah well, that might be true and I'm sure many works of art came from some sort of conflict (be it an external effect like the vandalism I saw, or an internal one, such as a moral or ethical conflict), but regardless I'm still not happy about it! (/4yearold_IdontCareAttitude=on)

I do aknoledge that the 'ends' resulted in an artisistic work for me (and I'm sure many others) to see and enjoy, but I think the 'means' that got us there was seriously misguided.

Oh well... Silver lining and all that I suppose.

Enjoy.

Photo 365 - Day 107 (Stained Window)

Day 107 (October 18th, 2010)
Title: Stained Window

We stayed in this little, run down, hotel for one night and the room was basically as bland as you could get it.  Beige walls, white sheets and blankets, gray counters, white shower-curtain, etc.  Drab.  Blech.  But, I thought for one night, its no big deal.  Cheap rooms don't need art or any sort of expression.  I was pleasantly surprised when I went to take a shower - upon moving the curtain, there was this amazing stained-glass window staring at me.  The sun was shining through it, giving it a great "glowing" effect.  That one little thing changed the whole room, quashing the drabness!  (That's right, it was so neat that I actually used the word "quashed" to describe it!)

I hope the next time you are in a situation that seems, bland or gray, you take a moment to search for that one tiny thing that adds a spark of beauty and light.  And if you can't find one, perhaps you can add your own!

Enjoy!

Photo 365 - Day 102 (Spice #4)

Day 102 (October 13th, 2010)
Title: Spice #4

Day 4 of Name That Thing is here!  Now the riots can cease and we can get back to guessing!  We actually had quite a few guesses yesterday, ranging from: All-Spice Seeds, Cardamom, Anise, Rutabaga (some people were clearly not on their meds), and the correct answer of:  FENNEL SEEDS!

Nice job!  That was a tricky one!  Now, we are in the final stretch, the last lap, the 7th inning, the 2nd to last silly metaphor, the 'Fat Lady' is warming up!

Here is today's exciting spice!

Enjoy!

Ps: For those of you who guessed Rutabaga on the last one, this one is NOT in fact, Pork Rinds.  Take your darn meds already!
