Photo 365 - Day 228 (Bridge Gap)
Day 228 (February 16th, 2011)
Title: Bridge Gap
I recently saw a great photo in a mall (crazy!). It was a large print on the wall of Bloomingdale's of the Golden Gate bridge, done in black and white from the perspective of someone driving in a car (I'm hoping the passenger took the photo, not the driver!) It was shot straight up so you could really see the towers as well as the cars zipping along the bridge.
I thought I'd try to replicate that photo somewhat, but via the Bay Bridge (only because we rarely go over the Golden Gate). I got a few shots that were okay, but didn't quite get the look I was going for (too much traffic and we were going a bit too fast for the camera to focus the way I wanted it to). This photo, on the other hand was more of a "playing around" shot, but I really enjoy how it came out. To pay homage to the original idea of what I was working on, I did some selective coloring to render the top and bottom black and white. The bridge in the background is in fact, the Golden Gate!
Enjoy

Photo 365 - Day 214 (Sword of Jace)
Day 214 (February 2nd, 2011)
Title: Sword of Jace
Warning - High Gamer Level Post
This is for my fellow Magic: The Gathering fans. I took some photos at my local store of a recent Magic event, and while I was more focused (photo pun!) on getting portraits of the players I did see a few matches that I thought "Wow, brutal!" This is one of those matches, the player on the left has a Jace and Sword of Feast of Famine, while the player on the right... does not.
From a "photo" perspective, this is another selective color photo - I converted the entire photo to black and white, then masked Jace and the Sword back to color.
Enjoy

Photo 365 - Day 177 (Weeds)
Day 177 (December 27th, 2010)
Title: Weeds
Sometimes art, much like nature, can pop-up randomly. I was walking in Berkeley, when I looked down and saw these small green weeds growing up right in the middle of the sidewalk. I love seeing this, because it reminds me, no matter how much we build and surround ourselves with all this technology and lifelessness, nature is still waiting. Just waiting to grow back, to put color back in the world. Concrete, roads, cars, trucks, machines, steel, iron, bigger and bigger. Time will pass, and a little green weed will sprout and grow.
Enjoy

Photo 365 - Day 71 (Dak)
Day 71 (September 13th, 2010)
Title: Dak
Its a cat. A cool cat. A Dak cat. This is one of the many "Extreme Pet-o-matic" cats of Rachael and Eric. Now, as much as I enjoy breathing and being able to see (re: allergies), I still love petting their cats. Their cats have an cool ability to have all of their bones turn into jell-o when they are being pet (and basically become a giant purring hairball).
I took this with one of my smaller "carry-along" digital cameras, but I feel it came out really well. I did do some photoshopping (as you can tell), including: layering (to get the selective coloring of the eyes), altering the saturation and colorizing to get a nice black and white feel, and lastly an Inner Glow layer style to give it that vignetting-like border.
Enjoy!

Bonus Pic!
While I was playing around with the layers, I decided to make something just a bit creepy. I made an Eric/Dak collage. Normally I don't post pictures of people, just because I'm never use they will appreicate/approve of it, but I think in this case its ok. Besides, if you don't know Eric, I doubt this picture will help you recognize him on the street. I mean, his collar doesn't even say Dak on it! Sheesh.

Day 24 (July 27th, 2010)
Title: Aces!
For those that know me, they know I'm an avid gamer, including poker. Sadly, more often than not, when I get aces I lose. The Poker Gods are a fickle bunch! This is another experiment in selective coloring.

Day 16 (July 19th, 2010)
Title: Old Fence with Purple Flower
This is my first attempt at a selective black and white photo. I think the effect is "mild" enough not to be too distracting, but adds a nice touch to the photo.
