Photo 365 - Day 321 (Idle Flower)
Day 321 (May 20th, 2011)
Title: Idle Flower
At first, I thought: Hey, look at that, the city is try to look nicer by putting up flowers on the light posts. How lovely!". Then, while waiting for folks to come out yet another random store that was selling the EXACT same t-shirts as the other 5 stores, I noticed, if you look just the right way (and by "right way" I mean the want that say, any normal person driving a car might look), the flowers completely block the "Don't Idle Your Car Otherwise We Will Ticket Yo Ass!" sign. So, in essence, what was learned was: The city parks department in San Francisco really hates people (especially drivers).
Subject: Lamp post with "conveniently" placed flowers.

Photo 365 - Day 203 (Grommet Flower)

Title: Grommet Flower
Secrets of Scrapbooking: Grommets!
Today's Secret of Scrapbooking is grommets! Grommets are very similar to yesterday's secret, brads - but with some key differences. First, a grommet is more permanent, whereas brads are removable. A grommet is a small metal tube with one end rounded (or "curled") to be smooth and the other end left unaltered. First, a hole is punched between one or more layers to be linked together and then the grommet is inserted into the hole of each item. A special crimping tool is used (most notable, the Cropadile!) and the unaltered end is curled (squished) until it is rounded like the top - and in doing so the layers are permanently linked.
As with the brads, the grommets add both a color and depth element, but at the same time they can be used as a junction for other embellishments, like ribbon, cloth, string, and brads!
In this photo, we see that a grommet was used to connect two different flower cut-outs to a base of white cardstock (after holes were punched in them). One thing to note is the bottom layer (not connected to the flowers), a page from a book, can be seen via the grommet holes.

Photo 365 - Day 121 (Duo of Roses)

Title: Duo of Roses
Finally, I've made it to November! I'm not sure how I got so behind (other than crazy-sickness), but I finally feel as if I'm catching up!
Today is the last of my "flower" week series (but I'm sure more flowers will be coming), and I thought I'd do a duo of shots (because "duo" sounds more snooty than "two"). I know, its supposed to be only one photo a day, but its my birthday, so I'm doing two!... Err, I mean, a duo!
Both shots are of the same rose, but from different angles. I played with the contrast, vibrance, and brightness to give them a bit more depth in color and feel (although, now they have almost an 'artsy' look - like they were painted).

Photo 365 - Day 106 (Old Train House)
Day 106 (October 17th, 2010)
Title: Old Train House
If anyone has visited Hercules, CA recently you would have seen a town that has really expanded lately - tons of condos, new buildings, more fast-food joints than is really necessary, basically a 'new' bustling town. What a lot of folks don't know, is that Hercules has been around for a long time. They used to have a dynamite factory and it was a key stop for many railroads. But, as is the way of things, things changed and the old down was basically left to die (the dynamite factory closed and the trains no longer needed to make as many stops for water/sand as technology got better). If you go out to the old train yard/stop you can find lots of neat buildings and structures that are closed and slowly falling apart. This photo is of a house that was near the rail-yard, now fenced off, flowers growing wild and lost to the annals of time.

Photo 365 - Day 96 (Lemon Flower)
Day 96 (October 7th, 2010)
Title: Lemon Flower
Clearly Mabel enjoyed having her picture taken, because when I went out to check on her today, many of the buds (from yesterday) had bloomed into cute and very fragrant flowers! I would say nearly half of them bloomed and the other half are just about there! Now, being that I'm not a "green-thumb" (I have in fact, killed a bamboo plant... and it was plastic), I am hoping that all the buds, and now flowers, are a good sign for future lemoniness!
Course, knowing my luck, she is only growing all the flowers to attract the bees, whom she will then convince to all fly together and lift her up to freedom. She'll laugh: "You'll never see a lemon! Mu-hahaha!" as she flies off into the sunset. I blame the bee Unions for all of this.
